René Gruau and the Art of Dior

In this fascinating talk Connie traces the life and art of René Gruau (1901-2004) and explores why his imaginative and beautifully crafted art for Dior is considered amongst the most iconic fashion images of the 20th century. His flowing brush strokes promoted and defined the essence of Dior.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Connie has a background in fashion and broadcasting. She specialises in 20th century fashion illustration and its legacy with great couture houses of Paris, London and New York. She sits on advisory boards at The Courtauld Institute of Art, London and Special Collections at FIT, New York. She works closely with institutes and foundations on acquisitions, conservation and exhibition projects. She has created specialist exhibitions including most recently “Legends Only” at Claridge’s Hotel, London in 2022. She also curated Cunard’s Transatlantic Fashion Cruise on their flagship ship Queen Mary 2 to celebrate London and New York fashion weeks.
